StoicPhone Privacy Policy
Last updated: July 25, 2026
Quick summary
StoicPhone does not collect, store on external servers, or share any personal data. All the information the app handles (your pinned apps, your settings, your urgent contacts, your usage statistics) is stored only on your own device and never leaves it. We don't use analytics, we don't show ads, and we don't have user accounts or our own servers.
If you uninstall StoicPhone, all of this information disappears with the app.
1. Who we are
StoicPhone is an independently developed Android launcher (home screen replacement) focused on mindful phone use. You can contact us at info@stoicphone.com with any questions about this policy.
2. What data we do NOT collect
We do not collect, transmit, or have access to:
- Your identity, name, email, or any personally identifiable information
- The content of your messages or calls
- Your location
- Browsing history
- Any data sent to servers of ours — because we don't have servers. StoicPhone has no backend: everything runs locally on your phone.
3. What information is stored, and where
All of StoicPhone's configuration (pinned apps, hidden apps, blocking settings, schedules, folders, Work Mode urgent contacts, filtered notification history, visual preferences, etc.) is stored in the app's private storage on your own device (Android SharedPreferences), the same way any app stores its settings. This information:
- Never leaves your device
- Is not accessible by us or by third parties
- Is automatically deleted if you uninstall the app
4. Permissions the app requests, and what each one is for
StoicPhone requests several special Android permissions. Each one has a specific purpose, and none of them involve sending data anywhere:
Accessibility Service
Used exclusively to detect when you open an app you've marked as blocked, and to show you the corresponding block screen. It also relies on the usage stats permission (below) as a backup, so detection works reliably across different device manufacturers. No screen content or content from any other app is read, recorded, or transmitted.
Usage access
Used to show you your own screen time (usage dashboard, progress report, suggestions when blocking apps), and as technical backup for the blocked-app detection mentioned above. This information is calculated and displayed only on your device; it is never sent to any server.
Notification access
Used for several features you enable voluntarily: the notification filter (muting apps you choose), the urgency indicator on the Home screen, and WhatsApp/Telegram message filtering within Work Mode. When a notification is filtered, we locally store its title (so we can show you a “filtered notifications” history inside the app itself, and for the comparisons needed, such as against an urgent contact's name) — that title never leaves your device, is never transmitted anywhere external, and you can delete that history at any time from within the app.
Contact picker
When you add an “urgent contact” in Work Mode, StoicPhone opens Android's native contact picker. Only the name and phone number of the contact you choose are stored, locally on your device — StoicPhone does not get access to the rest of your address book.
Notifications (POST_NOTIFICATIONS, Android 13+)
Needed to show you the usage-time reminders you configure yourself, and the filtered-notifications summary.
Query all installed apps (QUERY_ALL_PACKAGES)
Essential for the basic operation of any launcher: we need to know which apps you have installed in order to show them to you in the list. No list is ever sent anywhere.
Set wallpaper (SET_WALLPAPER)
A “normal” permission (doesn't require your explicit confirmation) used only if you choose to enable the option to set your system lock screen background to black, from Settings.
5. Third parties
StoicPhone does not integrate any analytics SDK, advertising SDK, or any third-party library that collects data. We don't share information with anyone, because we don't collect it.
6. Children
StoicPhone is not specifically directed at children and does not collect data from any user, regardless of age.
7. Changes to this policy
If this policy changes, we will update the date at the top of this document and, if the change is significant, we will also indicate it within the app itself.
